AI Policy

Artificial intelligence (AI) tools, including generative AI and large language models, are increasingly used in research and writing. This policy explains how they may be used in work submitted to AJCCE and in the editorial process.

Authors

  • AI tools cannot be listed as authors, because they cannot take responsibility for the work.
  • Authors are fully responsible for the accuracy, originality and integrity of the entire manuscript, including any part prepared with the help of AI tools.
  • Any use of AI tools in preparing the manuscript, beyond basic spelling and grammar checking, must be disclosed in the manuscript, stating the tool used and the purpose for which it was used.
  • AI tools must not be used to fabricate or manipulate data, results, images or references.
  • Where AI methods are part of the research itself, they should be described in the methods section in enough detail for the work to be reproduced.

Reviewers

  • Reviewers must not upload manuscripts, or any part of them, to AI tools, as this may breach confidentiality.
  • The evaluation and the review report must reflect the reviewer's own judgement.

Editors

  • Editors must not upload submitted manuscripts or related correspondence to AI tools.
  • Editorial decisions are made by the editors and are not delegated to AI tools.

Non-compliance

Undisclosed or inappropriate use of AI tools is treated as a breach of the journal's Publication Ethics.
