Reviewer Responsibilities

Peer review helps editors reach sound decisions and helps authors improve their work. Reviewers for AJCCE are expected to observe the following:

  • Suitable assignments: agree to review only manuscripts within your expertise and only when you can meet the deadline; otherwise, decline promptly.
  • Conflicts of interest: decline to review, and inform the editor, if you have a competing, collaborative or other relationship with the authors or the work.
  • Confidentiality: treat the manuscript as a confidential document and do not share or discuss it without the editor's permission.
  • Unpublished information: do not use ideas or data from the manuscript for personal advantage.
  • Objectivity: give clear, evidence-based comments; personal criticism of the authors is not appropriate.
  • Relevant literature: point out relevant published work that the authors have not cited, and do not ask for citations to your own work without a genuine academic reason.
  • Ethical concerns: tell the editor about any suspected plagiarism, data manipulation, duplicate publication or other ethical problem.
  • AI tools: do not upload the manuscript, or any part of it, to AI tools (see the AI Policy).

Practical advice on preparing a review is available in the Reviewer Guidelines.
